Everyone is welcome at Saint Luke Orthodox Christian Church!  We hope that you will worship God--the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—with us soon.  Most of our members discovered Orthodox Christianity as adults, and inquirers, visitors, and families with children are certainly welcome in all our services.  Our members come from many different backgrounds, but are united in the Church born at Pentecost. We follow together the path of our Lord, God, and Savior Jesus Christ  as modeled by the saints and martyrs across the centuries. We hope that you will worship with us soon.

Many people in our culture have never encountered the Orthodox Christian faith, which has historically been associated with believers from the Middle East, Greece, Russia, and Eastern Europe.  There is nothing ethnic, however, about the fullness of the Body of Christ.  Even as Jews and Gentiles came together in the Book of Acts, our parish includes members who grew up in Texas, Africa, Romania, and other parts of the US and of the world.  The focus is on our unity in Christ, not on  cultural differences that have no spiritual significance.

Orthodox worship is liturgical, which means that we follow ancient patterns of prayer used by Christians for two thousand years.  The focus of our services is the worship of God, not entertainment.  We chant the Psalms and other hymns, read the Scriptures, hear a brief homily, and celebrate the Eucharist (Holy Communion) every Sunday.  We use all our senses in worship as we see beautiful icons and smell incense.  We use our bodies to stand, kneel, make the sign of the Cross, and otherwise comport ourselves in ways that help us become fully open to God. This page contains links to daily Scripture readings, videos of our services on YouTube, and recordings and transcripts of recent homilies.

If you have any questions about the Orthodox faith, please let me know.  And I hope to see you soon at Saint Luke!

Yours in Christ,

Father Philip LeMasters

Homily for the Fourth Sunday of Great Lent in the Orthodox Church
13 Apr 2024 at 1:23pm

Hebrews 6:13-20; Mark 9:17-31

If we have embraced the spiritual practices of Lent with any level of integrity for the last few weeks, the weakness of our faith has surely become apparent to us.  Our minds wander when we pray and...
